But first, coffee…

Wow, first post of the year. Actually, first post ever!

To kick off the Teachy Teach blog, I want to talk about the importance of coffee in my life.

As a person with a lot of things to do, coffee is supposed to provide me with the level of alertness that I require. But the real reason I drink it is because I would be a legit hot mess if I didn’t.

And here we encounter the coffee addict… gasp

Come on, I’m not the only one! Coffee is one of the most popular beverages consumed all over the world. Some countries do it better than others (shout out to Australia for doing amazing coffee, #grateful) but overall, it does the same thing. It makes our brains do the stuff.

There are alternatives to drinking coffee, but who needs alternatives when coffee isn’t actually that bad for you?

SOME FUN FACTS

1) Healthy Health
Coffee (when consumed like a normal person and not a zombie) can actually do some good things for your body. It can do some awesome fun things like reducing your risk of type 2 diabetes, and even liver cancer! DISCLAIMER: THERE ARE MANY FACTORS TO YOUR SUSCEPTIBILITY TO THESE DISEASES. YOU CANNOT DRINK 25 CUPS OF COFFEE A DAY AND EXPECT TO BE IMMUNE.

Okay I’m done yelling (probably). Next fact.

2) Moody Mood
Caffeine can do some weird things to your mood. On one hand, you can become less zombie-esque by drinking your required coffees for the fix. But on the other hand, it can unleash some terrible side effects to people with anxiety disorders.

As a person that suffers from GAD (Generalised Anxiety Disorder) and SAD (Social Anxiety Disorder), I know my limit when it comes to caffeine. Having too many coffees can heighten my susceptibility to panic attacks, and I need to steer clear of these things if I am to continue about my daily business. One coffee a day usually does the trick for me!

BUT on a lighter note, I can drink decaf coffee! Because I like the taste of coffee, I can drink decaf during the day to make my taste buds happy while keeping my anxiety at bay.

3) Toilety Toilet?
Okay so trying to keep up with the heading theme is not working for me. But this third and final fact is about coffee being a diuretic (this means it makes you pee a lot).

As a person who drinks a lot of water and herbal tea, going to the bathroom a lot is not a foreign concept to me. But people who drink coffee find that they frequent the bathroom a lot more. For me, it doesn’t make a huge difference, but I always hear of people complaining about it!

So there you go, 3 wonderful fun facts about coffee.
